OASIS the online catalog is the source of information about the holdings of Jernigan Library, Texas A&M University- Kingsville. The OASIS online catalog lists books, sound and video recordings, government documents, and archival materials.

You may search for library materials using: Author, Author/Title, LC Subject, Title, Call Numbers, and Keywords.

To search for books by a specific author:
1. Click on AUTHOR
2. Type the author's name - last name first - and clik on SUBMIT SEARCH
3. Click on the author's name
4. Select a title of interst and click on it to see its call number

To search for books by author and title:
1. Click on AUTHOR/TITLE
2. Type the author's name and book title (omit the first word if it is a, an, the) then click on SUBMIT SEARCH.
3. Click on a title to see its call number.

To search for books by title:
1. Click on TITLE.
2. Type book title (omit the first word if it is a, an, the).
3. Click on title to see its call number.

To search for books by LC SUBJECT
1. Click on LC SUBJECT.
2. Type your subject and click on SEARCH.
3. Select a title of interest and click on it to see its call number.

To search for books by call numbers
1. Click on CALL Nos.
2. Select Library of Congress Call Number(if call number is an alpha-mumerical number).
3. Type call number and click on SEARCH.

Keyword Searching
Jernigan Library uses the Library of Congress Subject Headings to describe tis holding. When doing a subject search, a LC Subject must be used. Try a KEYWORD search when you are unsure of the exact Library of Congress Subject Heading, exact title, or want to use your own words.

A keyword search allows you to combine different terms in a single search. Futhermore, when doing a keyword search, the system searches for records with search term(s) in several fields (i.e., LC Subject, Title, Author, Content Note, etc.) all at once.

Use the Boolean operators AND, OR, NOT to combine different concepts into a single search. Boolean operators are used to narrow or expand the search.

AND Shakespear AND midsummer Finds records contining both terms
OR Chemistry OR Biology Finds records containing either term or both terms
Eclipse NOT solar Finds records containing the first term, but not the second


If no Boolean operator is entered, the Boolean operator AND is implied.

SEARCHING FOR JOURNALS
1. Do a title search for the title of the journal 2.Click on title that matches your search.
(If multiple entries are found for one specific title search, click on title and then look for record with information underneath title of journal for CURRENT JOURNALS and BOUND JOURNLS) 3. Information on which volumes are available at Jernigan Library is found under LIB. HAS
Current issues of journals are kept ont he first floor by journal title, and earlier bound issues are shelved by call number on the third floor.
