How Do I Find Where a Journal is Indexed?
Main Menu TAMUK Main Menu

When you need to know which electronic database offers indexing and/or full text articles for a specific journal, use JAKE (Jointly Administered Knowledge Environment). This excellent resource was developed at Yale University and is an invaluable tool for selecting the appropriate index/database for a given journal title.

NOTE: Your local library will not subscribe to every database listed in JAKE; and you cannot directly access any database through JAKE.

USING JAKE

  1. After you have read these instructions, click on the highlighted JAKE link above, or access JAKE from the Jernigan Library Homepage under Services>Miscellaneous Services.
  2. Enter the title of the journal in which you are interested in the search box.
  3. You will see a screen with the title of your journal. There may be more than one listing.
  4. Click on the blue-highlighted "complete details" link for the first entry of your journal.
  5. You may have to scroll down to see the results list.
  6. You will see a table with the headings--Resource--Provider--Indexed--Full Text.
  7. The Resource is the name of the electronic database which either indexes or offers full text for your journal. REMEMBER: Your library may not have all of the databases shown in the Resource list. If you need assistance, please don't hesitate to ask a librarian.
  8. The Provider is the database vendor (this does not affect your search).
  9. The next heading is "Indexed." If there is a date or a "+" under this heading, it means that the listed resource indexes articles from this journal.
  10. The next heading is "Full Text." If there is a date or a "+" under this heading, it means that the listed resource offers full text articles which you can print out. (A word of caution, not everything in a full text database is actually full text. There may be some articles which are only indexed.) If there is a "-", it means that full text is not offered.
  11. Now you need to return to the library homepage, or follow the link below directly to the online resources page, to select the electronic database in which your journal is indexed or available in full text.
