Jernigan Library Circulation Policy
LOCATION: The Circulation Desk is located on the first floor. The
telephone number is 593-3408.
IDENTIFICATION: Users must present a valid Texas A&M
University-Kingsville ID card to borrow materials. The University ID card is the Library
card for faculty, staff and students. Dependent children of faculty and staff are not
allowed to check out materials. All other users will be issued a Library ID card.
BORROWERS
RESPONSIBILITIES: All borrowers are responsible for
maintaining a current mailing address for correspondence. Borrowers are responsible for
returning or renewing materials by the date indicated on the date due slip. When materials
are recalled, borrowers must return the materials by the date on the recall notice.
Borrowers are responsible for the loss or damage of all materials borrowed on their
library cards.

NON-CIRCULATING
MATERIALS: Some materials are non-circulating.
These include bound periodicals, current periodicals, reference books and other materials
as indicated. Exceptional circumstances may justify occasional exceptions to this policy.
RENEWALS:
All materials except recalled or overdue items can
be renewed through the OASIS online system. Overdue items must be renewed at the
Circulation Desk.
RECALLS: Borrowers who need materials that are currently on
loan may complete a Recall/Locate Form at the Circulation Desk. When the material is
returned the borrower will be notified. Such books will be held at the Circulation Desk
for three (3) days. Materials must be overdue in order to be recalled.
LOCATE: If needed books or materials cannot be located, patrons
may complete a Recall/Locate Form at the Circulation Desk. The patron will be notified
when the book is located. Such books will be held at the Circulation Desk for three (3)
days.
HOLDS: Available
materials (materials not checked out) may not be placed on hold.
INTERLIBRARY
LOAN: Books borrowed from other libraries through
interlibrary loan are due on the date indicated. These dates are set by the lending
library. Failure to return such books promptly may jeopardize loan privileges with other
libraries.
OVERDUE
MATERIALS: Fines charged for materials kept past the
due date are as follows:

LOST BOOKS &
MATERIALS: A lost book must be paid for or
replaced with a copy of the same, if it is acceptable to the library.
The average replacement cost per lost item is $55, but lost materials will be
charged at the actual replacement cost per item.
CONFIDENTIALITY: The Library protects the rights of its
borrowers to confidentiality under the Texas Open Records Act (Attorney General of Texas
Open Records Decision No. 100 regarding "Library circulation records identifying
borrowers") and will not release any information regarding borrowers.
LIBRARY PRIVILEGES: Users having overdue or lost materials or
owing fines may have library privileges withdrawn, and will not be furnished official
grade reports or transcripts. Registration will not be permitted until materials are
returned and fines paid. All library records of faculty, staff and students must be
cleared before leaving the University.
